Acquired in 1995, Tenuta La Court was created to be the «Chateaux del Nizza Docg». The former Aluffi estate, originating from the 1800s, is a single parcel of over 20 hectares located on two hills: a size which makes La Court one of the most important in Monferrato, a unique and inimitable stage for the qualitative elevation of the Barbera grape variety. Our most important Nizza and Barbera wines are from the best vineyards of the Estate, elegant wines with great structure and longevity.

La Court is the perfect symbiosis between nature, the landscape and the efforts of man. Here, arises Art Park La Court, the visionary and creative project of Michele Chiarlo which celebrates the marriage of wine and art set within a landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The majestic cypress trees, planted on the hilltops date from the mid-nineteenth and are the symbol of the Estate and celebrated by Giancarlo Ferraris on the label of Nizza Cipressi Docg.

The designation Nizza D.O.C.G.

Born in 2014, the Nizza D.O.C.G. is recognised as the summit of the designations of the Barbera grape variety. The vineyards which can bear the designation “Nizza” are found in the area historically suitable to this grape variety. The area of Monferrato is quite restricted, where there are just 18 municipalities. The vineyards, positions with great exposures (form southeast to southwest), have very low yields (less than 70 quintals per hectare) and lie on soils designated “Astian sand”.

The wine is aged half in 65 hl French oak barrels where the fermentation took place and half in barriques for 12 months. This is followed by a further 18 months in bottle prior to release.

An appealing and structured wine, complex and elegant, with hints of coffee, tobacco and black fruits. Its richness and elegance places it amongst the finest wines in Chiarlo's portfolio.
