The vineyard consists of gravel on an iron-rich soil, and thanks to a return to traditional methods, the resulting wine is now more complex and powerful. It has a bright colour and develops a fresh, fruity, floral nose. The palate is perfectly structured and rounded, with notes of cherries and chocolate. The tannins are rich and smooth, with good length.

This bottle comes from the period before the re-vitalization of the chateau and estate in 1997 by Jean-Hubert Delon and Michel Rolland. Whilst overall quality did improve under the new ownership, Neal Martin of the Wine Advocate warns against ignoring old vintages from Nenin's Libournais vineayards - "Do not dismiss older vintages out of hand: my rule is that if great wines are being made now, there is no reason why they were not being made when the wine was a more mundane product."
